Thalipeet
Thalipeet is a spiced flat bread made from multigrainflour. Thalipeeth makes for a healthy, tasty and nutritious breakfast or snack. You can even pack them in the lunch box. You may find the list of ingredients, a little lengthy. But don’t worry, the recipe otherwise is quite easy and simple.
Ingredients
Bhajani Flour :
Grains
- ¼ Cup Brown Rice
- ¼ Cup Corn
- ¼ Cup Foxtail millet
- ¼ Cup Ragi millet
- ¼ Cup Sorghum
- ¼ Cup Wheat Option, omit for GF version
Dals
- ¼ Cup Green mung
- ¼ Cup Green chana chickpeas
- ¼ Cup Black Urad
- ¼ Cup Horsegram
- ¼ Cup Moth
- ¼ Cup Masoor
- ¼ Cup Soybean
Spices:
- 1 Tablespoon Flax seeds
- 1 Tablespoon Sesame seeds
- 1 Teaspoon Coriander Seeds
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
- ½ Teaspoon Ajwain seeds
Other fresh Ingredients to taste:
- Greens of any kind
- Grated Vegetables of your choice
- Onions or green onions
- Garlic finely chopped (optional)
- Green chilies finely chopped
- Cilantro finely chopped
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- First take all the flours, spice powders, sesame seeds, onions, ginger, green chili, coriander leaves and salt in a mixing bowl or pan.
- Mix everything very well.
- Then add water in parts and as required.
- Begin to mix the dough.
- Continue to add water in parts and mix everything to a soft and smooth dough.
Making Thalipeet
- Break off medium sized balls and place on a wet kitchen towel.
- Wet hand with water and pat to even out the dough until uniform to form a five-inch circle.
- Invert the wet towel onto a hot tawa or frying pan. Cook without any oil. Once fully cooked, the Thalipeet will release from the iron pan, flip and cook on the other side.
- Cook until some brown spots appear and the Thalipeet is well roasted on both sides.
Notes
Eat Thaleepeth with plant-based yogurt, raita, pickle or chutney while still hot. Thaleepeth from Maharashtra is similar to Karnataka’s akki rotti or ragi rotti. Enjoy a nutritious & delicious Thalipeet!!
