Yellow Moong Dal & Greens (Keerai Masiyal)

Keerai Masiyal, a traditional South Indian dish made with greens, ginger and chillies.

  • ¼ to ½ cup Yellow Moong Dal
  • Greens like Radish Greens (Cauliflower Greens, Kohl Greens.)
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 piece Ginger
  • 2 nos. Green Chillies
  • 2 Tablespoon Coconut
  • Salt as required
  • 1 teaspoon Hing
  • 1 Lemon
  • Roasted urdal dal and mustard
  1. Soak 1/4 -1/2 cup yellow mung dal for 30 mins.
  2. Chop lots of greens – Radish Greens, cauliflower greens, kohl rabi and greens kale.
  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons of water to a hot pan and the soaked lentils.
  4. Add greens with stems, chopped curry leaves with some salt and hing.
  5. While it cooking add finely diced ginger and green chilies.
  6. Finally add roasted Urad dal and mustard seeds.
  7. Squeeze juice of 1 lime.
  8. Sauté for only 2-4 mins.
  9. Garnish with grated coconut.

Serve as a snack or salad or with Rasam & Rice!!!
