Dry Fruit Modak

Ingredients
  

Outer covering ingredients
  • 2 cups Rice Flour
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
For the Dry Fruits Stuffing:
  • 1/2 cup nuts each of almonds, cashew & pista
  • 1 1/2 TBS sesame seeds roasted
  • 1 1/2 TBS poppy seeds roasted
  • 10-12 large mejdool dates
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder

Method
 

Procedure to make the outer covering:
  1. Bring water to a rolling boil
  2. Add rice flour and salt
  3. Mix with the back of a wooden spatula
  4. It will still look dry and crumbly
  5. Cover and set aside for 10 mins
  6. Knead it for 1-2 mins well
  7. Make into small balls
  8. Use rice flour to roll into thin round shapes
  9. Make modak shape by pinching in 6-8 spots
Procedure to make the filling:
  1. Add nuts, dates, flavorings to the bowl of a food processor or blender and pulse until the mixture barely comes together. Dry fruit filling is ready.
  2. Add the dry fruit mixture to modak shape and close the top of modaks
  3. Steam modaks for 10 mins
  4. Decorate with saffron strands

Notes

No sugar                                                       No jaggery                   Only dry fruits!!!
